With spring creeping up, Columbia Missourian's visual department decided to feature warm weather. We had different photographers hunting throughout the Columbia feature, looking for visuals they thought would be great. After acquiring some photos, the other editors and I realized our photos were all about blooming flowers and scenery, not people enjoying the warm weather. Since we desperately needed more diverse images, I contacted the other photographer on duty and talked to him about the types of photos we had and what we were looking for. After giving him the locations the previous photographer went to and some suggestions of places to check out, I encouraged him to go further afield to seek visual possibilities. In the end, he found some people practicing rock climbing again, and that set of photos gave us a more diverse final presentation. While working with the designer on the photo page, we needed help placing several flower photos. Ultimately, we chose the best from the images and positioned the most visually exciting climbing photos as the dominant ones, resulting in a satisfying photo page.
